Just wanted to let everyone know that our troop meeting originally scheduled for this Thursday, 4/11 is CANCELLED. We decided that there was enough going on this month with our booth sale last week and the clothing drive this week. Instead, we will meet next Thursday, 4/18 at Maila's home to sort all the donations. This is part of our troop's service project, so we urge all the girls to attend. But until then, remember that we will be accepting donations all this week! Drop off is at Maila's home. More detailed information is under the previous blog post.
Thanks to all the parents who came out last Thursday to help with our booth sale. As Maila mentioned in an earlier e-mail, our troop sold an additional 63 boxes. We are so proud of the way everyone really showed initiative and enthusiasm during the sales. And remember that we still have more boxes available for purchase. Great work everyone!

Anyone start their spring cleaning?
Spring is definitely on its way, which means that many of you will be rearranging your closets and drawers to make room for warmer wear. If you're planning to do any spring cleaning in the next week or so or have some piles of clothing set aside for goodwill, please consider setting them aside for our troop's CLOTHING DRIVE going on from Monday, April 8th to Friday April 12th. We'll be collecting any and all of the following:
- clothes - clean, gently worn
- clean paired shoes, sneakers
- hand bags
- clean stuffed animals
Please do your best to sort these items yourself in separate bags and drop them off at Maila's home (170 Glenside Ave, Scotch Plains, NJ) anytime next week. The troop will be meeting at the end of the week to do sorting of all the donated items. Exact date and time is still to be confirmed - stay tuned!

Cookie Booth Sale - THIS THURSDAY!
We will be conducting our troop's first ever cookie booth sale this Thursday after school at the Fanwood Train Station from 3:30pm-6:30pm. Just so everyone doesn't have to stay for the entire time, we're allotting one-hour or one-and-half hour shifts. Please let us know by emailing us which shift works best for you.
Shift 1a
3:30pm-4:30pm
Shift 1b
4:30pm-5:30pm
Shift 1c
5:30pm-6:30pm
Shift 2a
3:30pm-5:00pm
Shift 2b
5:00pm-6:30pm
We'll also need some adults to stay with the girls during the various shifts to help out, so let us know if you can stay.
Your girls are encouraged to make posters, signage and bling out our booth. The weather is promising to be sunny and nice with a high in the mid-50s.
For every person who purchases five boxes, they are eligible to enter to win a FREE iPad in the council's "Strive for Five" campaign. This also applies to those who may have previously purchased five boxes. If you know anyone that qualifies and would like to enter their information in this drawing, please remember to bring their name, e-mail, and contact information. We will compile all the names and submit them to the council. The random drawing will be made at the end of this month.

MARCH UPDATE
Anyone else getting spring fever? Perhaps Punxsutawney Phil's prediction of an early spring will prove true if the weather continues in this trend!
Our next troop meeting is THIS THURSDAY, MARCH 14th after school. Please remember to include any and all needed notes to teachers and aftercare personnel notifying them of your daughter's whereabouts and dismissal procedures.
Were were just notified that our "Art of Painting" trip scheduled for this Saturday, March 16 has sadly been CANCELLED. We will refund everyone their payments for this trip. However, if you have not yet submitted your payments for the WNBA trip in May, we can forward the money from the "Art of Painting" trip toward that activity. The permission slip and fees for WNBA game is due on April 11.
Just a reminder that our troop will be holding a cookie booth sale on April 4th. Stay tuned for sign up sheets to reserve your 30 minute shift.
And speaking of cookies, we want to congratulate our top three cookie sellers, Bianca, Jenai and Mackenzie!
Thanks for everyone's participation. Cookie orders will be in next Monday, 3/18. The cookie folks are asking for one person from each troop to help. The biggest perk of this is you get to get your troop's cookies before everyone else comes. The town-wide cookie sort will take place at IHM's Nazareth Center (1571 South Martine Avenue Scotch Plains).

February Update / Next Troop Meeting This THURSDAY 2/7
Hope this update finds you all healthy and warm. I wouldn't mind this cold weather if there were some significant snowfall, but I guess we cannot afford to make up any snow days this year! Perhaps the groundhog really will be right in predicting an early spring... I know that will make a lot of you happy.
First of all, we are having our next troop meeting THIS THURSDAY 2/7, so please remember to pack any necessary notes in your daughter's folder for teachers and aftercare personnel. We're asking everyone to please bring an old shirt to be used as a smock. (If you haven't submitted the Art of Painting permission slip and $15 check payable to Troop 40982, please remember to include it in your daughter's folder for the next meeting. See details about trip below.) Dismissal will be at 4:50 in the front door. We plan to put in some community service hours by crafting cards for wounded soldiers. We'll also be collecting questions we'll be asking a guest artist who will be speaking to our troop on THURSDAY 2/21.
COOKIE SALE ENDS on Friday, 2/15. Maila will be in the front of the school that morning collecting the orders and money. She will be in the multi-purpose room in the afternoon teaching a BSE class, so you can also drop it off then. If neither of those times is convenient, then please make arrangements to drop it off at her house at 170 Glenside Avenue. Please remember to include one check payable to Troop 40982.
On Thursday, 2/21, we will be having a meeting at Maila's home to hear from our guest artist via Skype. We will transport the girls to her home after dismissal and have our meeting there. Please include a note that your daughter will be dismissed with Maila and Erica for a girl scout meeting. Our meeting will conclude at 5pm, so please make arrangements to pick up your daughter at Maila's home at that time.
Our March troop meeting will be on Thursday, 3/14 at School One

Happy New Year!
I hope this update finds everyone's 2013 off to a great start! January promises to be an eventful month for our troop, so please read and sync up your calendars!
PANERA BREAD TRIP - THIS THURSDAY (1/10/13) AFTER SCHOOL
LAST CALL for permission slips! We'd really like to provide the final list to Panera, so if you haven't already submitted your slips or confirmed if your daughter is coming, PLEASE let us know ASAP.
We'll be leaving from School One after school and traveling to Panera in Watchung on Route 22E. Pickup will be at Panera Bread around 5:00pm (maybe sooner). If your daughter needs to return to aftercare, please let us know so we can make proper arrangements.
COOKIES! It's that time again! We'll begin distributing cookie sales packets after the Panera trip. (HOWEVER, the cookie sales don't officially begin until 1/14/13.)
Remember to make sure of the following:
- Your daughter must be registered for 2012-2013 year to sell cookies.
-Please sign and return the accompanying permission slip included in the cookie packet before starting sales. Everyone actually completed a permission slip earlier in the year with our Fall Nut Sale, so no other permission slip is necessary.
- Sale Goal: We would like for each girl to at least receive a cookie patch (25 boxes).
Troop MeetingNext Thursday, 1/17/13 1/24/13
We'll be meeting after school from 3:15pm - 4:45pm. Please remember to include any notes for teachers and aftercare personnel. (I'll send out another reminder that week.)
DANCING WITH THE HONEYBEE EVENT - SATURDAY AFTERNOON, 1/19/13
This will be a bug-badge-earning event without any sting! Please submit your permission slips and $20 payment if you haven't done so already. We need to submit final payment to guarantee our spots.
Unfortunately, the event has been CANCELLED. We will refund everyone's payments this Thursday.
FRIENDLY REQUEST: When making a payment for events, activities, or cookie sales, we'd greatly appreciate it if payment is made in the form of a check (rather than cash) if possible. This helps ensure the fees/monies will be allocated toward the appropriate activity and prevents it from getting into the wrong hands in case it gets lost in transit. Checks are always made out to "Troop 40982."
MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Me and My Guy Dance / Masquerade Ball will be held on Friday, March 1st. Please return slips and fee to Maila no later than January 26, 2013!
